I was going through a page online when I came across this extreme neat way of using Firefox’s address bar.
Lifehacker’s the source of this article.

Although I feel myself (and I am) to be a compugeek, I rarely used the bookmarks feature in browsers. I wanted portability of my bookmarks. So I used to save links as part of free web pages (eg KoolWebs). That was a long time ago. Google’s bookmarks helped me export/import my bookmarks online. It was pretty useful. This was how I started using bookmarks. Still I never really cared for it.

This page in Lifehacker’s was particularly liked by me for few tips to features I frequently use, events management, google directions, url shortening, setting alarms.. to name a few.

The basic idea is to harness the bookmarks with keywords to expedite your retrival process and decrease typing.

For eg. a bookmark leading to the url “http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=%s” and having a keyword of “way” will enable you to enter “way from Albany to Berea” in the Firefox address bar to find your route from Albany to Berea via google maps. Re-read the lines and you’ll find it simpler ;)

Similarly, to add a calendar event in GCal a bookmark leading to url “http://www.google.com/calendar/event?ctext=+%s+&action=TEMPLATE&pprop=HowCreated%3AQUICKADD” and keyword, say “event”, will help you add a calendar event. With Google’s extremely user friendly search engine & it’s artificial intelligence, I was able to easily add a calendar event by just typing “event marriage at palm beach 7 pm 12 June 2020″. GCal easily recognized the event name, time, place & date and filled the same for my reminder. That was like krazy great to me. Google is intelligent.

Go to the source page at Lifehacker and enjoy the power of bookmarks.
