Reliance USB Huawei EC325 CDMA data modem installation

Author note: I ran into real problems with my new Reliance USB Huawei EC325 CDMA data modem, not to mention the most $hitty customer service I ever came across. This help is for those who already took the Reliance Car… to the others… I advice & plead… don’t go for it.

Hmm.. comin back to the point… here goes…

1. Install the Reliance Netconnect software from the CD.

2. If the Huawei Connect software does not recognize the Data card, go to Device Manager.
Vista will assign multiple ‘data interface’ devices under the ‘Other devices’ category for the data card.
Right click the device, select ‘Update Driver Software…” and browse to Reliance CD. Make sure ‘Include Subfolders’ is checked.
Repeat for all other ‘data interface’ devices. Vista should indicate the successful installation of the following devices:
– HUAWEI Mobile Connect – 3G Modem
– HUAWEI Mobile Connect – 3G Application Interface

3. Shutdown and re-start the laptop. Restart the Huawei connect software and Connect.
If you get a “Connection Failed: Please check the wireless device or the Settings of the Network connection” , you will need to setup a DUN manually:
– Click ‘Start’ and ‘Connect To’
– Click on ‘Set up a connection or network’
– Select ‘Set up a dial-up connection’ and click Next
– Select the data card modem. You will be prompted to choose between Huawei Modem and Huawei Data/Fax — Select Huawei Modem
– Enter #777 into the dial-up phone number field
– Enter username and password and enter ‘Reliance’ or something similar as the connection name
– Click Connect

4. Once this is done, you should call up *228 from ur datacard using the dialer. Don’t forget to plug in the headphones provided with the modem into the datacard.

5. Listen carefully, follow instructions… provide the MDN no./scratchcard no. when asked.

If all goes well, you will get an sms in the next whoknowswhen(some say.. 15min.. some 3days! take it to be 45 min…). The sms has ur password.

Use to connect.

This is for those lucky ones with the old(!) WinXP. For the Vista guyz, u need to first download their Vista driver.

That is for the lucky ones with ordinary Vista….

What about Vista 64 bit guys!?

Those jûrks didn’t upload the Vista-64 bit drivers.
For these unfortunate souls with Vista 64bit… here are the drivers I uploaded… Vista-64bit drivers. Save it.
I didn’t get it anywhere… but the Reliance WebWorld(ya… they suck real bad… @least the ones @ Bangalore) where I had bought the card from. Of course, I had there a couple of times to sort out my datacard issues. The damn thing didn’t work even after installing drivers correctly. Something to do with the datacard internal whoknowswhat.

.

Note: The drivers’ address for Reliance DataCards changes sometimes, please try out this link too.

  2. Had same shitty problems when I got my datacard and these guys acted as if they didn’t know 64-bit OS existed. He’s telling me sir take these drivers. They are for vista!! 😐 Bloody dimwits! 😦

  3. Sanjit… hope the Vista 64bit I uploaded worked. It works on mine… the other Vista drivers dont work as they r’nt signed… and vista 64bit needs signed drivers only.

The reliance site changes (or changed)… try a default google search yaar.

  4. amit…….i have windows vista 32-bit os. i want to know that whether 64-bit driver of reliance netconnect will work on mine or not.

  5. I don’t think so… and neither it would happen vice-versa (for the drivers as Vista has an internal application for running 32bit software, but i dont think drivers can b installed)

    The drivers @ http://www.rcom.co.in/Communications/rcom/Netconnect/RCZip/Huawei-EC325.zip are 32 bit.
64bit is uploaded by me itself. I dont think RCom has yet updated their 64bit drivers online.

One more thing… Reliance had recently introduced a software, much like Onspeed, which calls up the reliance server b4 fetching pages. The server optimizes/compesses/reduces quality of the page elements & then signals our data card to download the optimized page. It increases speed but deprives us of image quality. And dunno how much reliance gathers our web-views then.

The software is called Netbooster & is available in the reliancecommunications.co.in site via links Reliance NetConnect -> DataCard -> Download -> Download ->NetBooster for NetConnect.

    Also, copy

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters]
    “SackOpts”=dword:00000001
    “TcpWindowSize”=dword:0005ae4c
    “Tcp1323Opts”=dword:00000003
    “DefaultTTL”=dword:00000040
    “EnablePMTUBHDetect”=dword:00000000
    “EnablePMTUDiscovery”=dword:00000001
    “GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize”=dword:0005ae4c

in notepad and save as .reg to make a registry file. Run the file to get marginally better speeds.

  6. i am using ubuntu linux operating system.. i need drivers for this perticular EC325 data modem for linux.. from where will i get ?

  7. CUSTOMER CARE GUYS ARE NOT EVEN AWARE OF THEIR BILLING CYCLE…… SO WHAT MORE CAN YOU EXPECT…. THEY NEED 10 MIN TO CHECK THAT… WAS TOLD THAT WE WILL GET SPEED OF 150 K BUT REALITY IS THIS THAT IT NEVER JUMPS ABOVE 40 k… Reliance sucks

  18. I have purchased EC325 RELIANCE EC325 Modem and installed. But the internet speed was only 25 kbps.If I ask customer care they are telling that I have to install any anti virus software and net boosters from http://www.rcom.co.in but I did’t get it.To increase the internet speed what to do?

  19. Vivekanandan… I already told, Reliance sux big time. Pester the callcentre that u got dead slow speeds. The problem might b with low signal u get… check out for full signal in the interface… 5 bars… anything lower, and u get low speeds.

Also, it can b of any download happening without ur knowledge.. like updates to OS, antiviral software, check out for that too.

  20. Thanks a lot buddy. It took me a while to figure but i eventually did. The problem was that i was trying to install 32 bit drivers on a 64 bit system. You are the saviour who pointed me to the drivers. Thanks a ton buddy! 🙂

  21. ubuntu doesn’t require any driver file.Just go to help page of their site and ask them how to configure dial up modem..you need to apply some code on terminal thats all…

  22. A lot of us use edge/gprs/zoom for connection, and how to configure it is not readily apparent.Although there are a lot of resources on this at the internet,I thought it would be nice if I could combine them in a Tutorial,Here we go:

    1. Plug in your EDGE modem or Handset

2.Go to Applications-Accesories-Terminal and Type(or you can copy from the browser and paste there using ctrl+shift+v)
    Code:
    sudo dmesg | grep tty

If you are running Ubuntu from CD, you not will be asked for a password. If you have installed ubuntu, you’ll need to type the password of your account.
The output will be something like

    Code:
    [ 22.338771] serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
    [ 22.339342] 00:0d: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
    [ 22.339938] 0000:01:09.0: ttyS1 at I/O 0xc828 (irq = 21) is a 8250
    [ 22.340199] 0000:01:09.0: ttyS2 at I/O 0xc840 (irq = 21) is a 8250
    [ 22.340377] 0000:01:09.0: ttyS3 at I/O 0xc850 (irq = 21) is a 8250
    [ 38.551796] usb 1-1: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0

here “ttyUSB0″ is my Modem,in some cases,it can be ttyACM0.

    3. sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

it will create a configuration file template based on the USB Device/Handset

    4. Type:
    Code:
    sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf

    5. At the Text Editor Window,Erase everything and paste the following:

    Code:
    [Dialer Defaults]
    Init1 = ATZ
    Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
    Modem Type = USB Modem
    Baud = 230400
    New PPPD = yes
    Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
    ISDN = 0
Phone = *99***1#(According to your service provider)
Username =xyz(According to your service provider)
Password =xyz(According to your service provider)

    Note:

    6. Type in terminal
    Code:
    sudo ifdown eth0

it will disable your LAN connection(Doesn’t need all time)

    7. finally type in terminal(By opening a new terminal)
    Code:
    sudo wvdial

    8. now you will get lot of output on console… like PPPDPPPD DNS and hope fully you’ll connected..

  23. does anyone know how to accelerate download speed in ubuntu 8.04LTS.i am getting a low speed about 10KBps by Citycell…

  24. Nice addition… Fahad Wajed. Didja try this?

Thnx for the praises, guyz. & those who still don’t get drivers.. please go thru the blog again.

The only driver missing online is the 64bit Vista driver…. which I’ve provided here. So nuthin missin… yet.

    And… please…. whoever called me “Sir”…. I’m not that “sir”-like ;D

  25. Well for ubuntu users , Fahed Wahedji was right that ubuntu doesn’t neet any drivers, but he never knew that they way at this time of using reliance on ubuntu is too obsolete , just use the ubuntu forums and search for sify on linux you might end up with something. or do one thing, Go to system>Administration>Network and then in network settings dialog, choose point to point connection or click unlock and unlock the connection first for those who believe Fahed, click properties in Connection type> Serial Modem and in phone number >777 and in Dial prefix># and in username put your repliance phone number and in password put your phone number , and then click modem tab and then in modem port put /dev/ttyUSB0 and then click the tones tab and check all three checkbox options and click ok . reliance netconnect will be working.
